Love Your Neighbor NOLA
Founded by Nadia Sanchez after her mother was killed in a New Orleans carjacking, Love Your Neighbor NOLA works to disrupt cycles of violence by being catalysts for family centered change. The organization supports families affected by generational trauma and community violence, starting with the family unit. Through its Building Functional Families program, caregivers can meet with staff to discuss their needs, access tangible supplies, and connect with representatives from other community organizations, receiving essentials like diapers, wipes, clothes, and car seats at no cost. The group pairs those goods with mental health resources, parent education, and help applying for programs like SNAP, WIC, and Section 8. What began as one family's tragedy is now a mission to build a kinder, more resilient New Orleans.
One Shot Education
Based in LaPlace, One Shot Education helps students and their families navigate one of life's biggest transitions. Its mission is to prepare students for the transition from high school to college and the workforce, offering college readiness training designed to equip both the student and the parent to make informed decisions about the road ahead. The program guides young people to discover their goals, plan their path, and earn the opportunities that follow. For families feeling overwhelmed by applications, financial aid, and career choices, One Shot Education turns a confusing process into a clear, supported plan.
Café Hope
Café Hope is a New Orleans nonprofit that gives young adults a real shot at a stable future through the city's signature industry: food. Established in 2010 on the Westbank, it runs a workforce training program that provides opportunity youth with paid, on-the-job restaurant and life skills training designed to lead to sustainable employment. Serving young people ages 16 to 24, the 16-week course starts with the soft skills that matter in any job, things like communication, conflict resolution, teamwork, goal setting and financial literacy, then moves into hands-on culinary and hospitality training inside a working restaurant, coffee shop, and catering operation at Timberlane in Gretna. Rebuilt after Hurricane Ida, Café Hope has served more than 750 participants to date. Every meal a guest buys directly funds a young person's path to self-sufficiency.
